Shocking: Mia Love trails Doug Owens in UT-4

Utah's 4th district is the home of retiring Jim Matheson.  He was in a hotly contested race with Tea Partier Mia Love in the 2012 election and won by less 768 votes. He ultimately decided to retire from the seat rather than face Love again this year.

It was "conventional wisdom" that Mia Love would easily win the seat during this election cycle.  However in new polling by independent pollsters from BYU, Doug Owens is leading Love by a few points (46-42%)-- which is within the margin of error.  This is very unexpected, especially after the 2010 re-districting that made it so difficult for Matheson to retain his seat.

For those of us who heard the debate between Owens and Love, this finding wouldn't be surprising--at least anywhere else than here. Mia Love came across as shockingly extreme.  Indeed, Mia Love is so extreme that she's now in a statistical dead heat in this red district.  Might we retain Matheson's seat after all?  This has me fired up to do more voter contact for Mr. Owens.
